JMS Naval Architects of Mystic, CT has completed the Contract Design of a 125-foot coastal research vessel for Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) in Cocodrie, LA.
LUMCON is presently preparing the solicitation documents for the new research vessel’s detail design and construction.
Shipyards with the experience and capability of building a state-of-the-art steel hull research vessel of this size and complexity are encouraged to send an email to LUMCON-SOL@JMSnet.com in order to be included on the list of interested bidders and receive further announcements.
The multipurpose oceanographic research vessel is designed to support a wide variety of missions in the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi Delta. It will be outfitted with a 1,600 HP twin diesel engine propulsion system, 150 HP bow thruster, Dynamic Positioning System, three oceanographic winches, a complex suite of hydroacoustic systems, and accommodations for up to 25 crewmembers and scientists. The vessel is designed to operate as an uninspected (under 300GRT), U.S. flagged oceanographic research vessel and will be assigned an ABS Load Line but will not be Hull and Machinery classed.
