“The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) selected the R/V VIRGINIA as one of the Significant Small Ships of 2018.”
Each year, this world-renowned professional institution narrows its selection down to 30 of the most unique small vessel designs from around the world which reflect a high-degree of design innovation across the marine sector. Founded in 1860 in London to “advance the art and science of ship design,” the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) is a highly respected international professional institution and learned society whose members are involved at all levels in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of all marine vessels and structures. Their members are widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organizations in over ninety countries.
“The R/V VIRGINIA is the most modern, most capable research vessel in its size class anywhere in the U.S.”
“Master of Flexibility”
“The R/V VIRGINIA has been selected as one of the few ships to be featured in Professional Mariner Magazine – American Ship Review 2020 due to its high degree of innovative design.”
Each year, Professional Mariner – American Ship Review, a journal of the maritime industry, covers the latest deliveries from shipyards in the United States and Canada, from ferries and excursion boats to research vessels, offshore supply vessels, and LNG-powered cargo ships.
“The R/V ARCTICUS was selected as one of The 10 Significant Boats of 2015 by the editors of Workboat Magazine.”
For 75 years, WorkBoat Magazine is the only maritime industry publication dedicated exclusively to the U.S. workboat market. It provides in-depth reporting on topics including offshore services, shipbuilding and repair, port security, marine electronics, environmental regulations, and more. Each year, boats we recognize as “Significant” can be a first-of-its-kind design. Often, they are chosen with innovative designs, a new wrinkle on a proven design, a successful series build, a proven design that has an unusual mission, operates in unusual places, or helps advance new workboat frontiers like wind energy.
